I've always found that a one line unix shell script works very nicely. So if I want to wake up in 7 hours time. I just set the PC's volume on maximum and type:

sleep 7h && mpg123 rideOfTheValkyries.mp3

If the loud Wagnerian music doesn't wake you up then the angry neighbours will.

uhm.... i am using a radio with wake up timer. the typical morning radio dj kicks you out of bed in a minute, trust me :)
(you can use a sub woofer for a stronger effect)
